Wednesday, 16 January

Today we began busily trying to get all of our previous art archived so that we could create new portfolios to use as we move forward to our new year.  Once Joanna arrived, we did a warm-up and then got right to our action pieces for the day.  Joanna and I have decided to limit the number of pieces assigned for the remainder of this year.  We will not be assigning "homework" pieces, students will need only to complete what is started during any one lesson.

#10 c) solved
After art we read for 15 minutes and then we transitioned to math.  I solved a couple of questions on the board and used that format as a way to open up some of the teaching with Ms. Careless yesterday during my absence.  I was keen to ensure that we looked at a couple of ways to solve some of the questions.  What was with 1. 34?  (Sorry, that is an inside joke - you had to be there - I was pretty connected to 1.35 for some reason).   Please complete the problem set for homework (remember to show your work unless the text indicates "mental math").

When we returned from lunch we read for a short while and then did another episode from the podcast series.  Perhaps most importantly, we debriefed some of the processes I'm exposing the class to and students gave their feedback on what works best for them.

We ended the day with floor hockey (there were three teams: one sat while two played - the team sitting rotated with a team who was scored upon).  Most notable is the fact that on Monday we had to try three times to make it to the gym without talking on the way and today we made it first time without a problem.  Congratulations, folks and thank you.
